- Official meaning
- Where a single continuous solid white line separates traffic travelling in opposite directions, a driver may not drive on the right side of it and no part of the vehicle may cross it. Three narrow exceptions apply, and only when it is safe to do so.
What the No Overtaking Line sign means
A single solid white line down the middle of a two-way road means stay on your side of it: do not cross it, and do not overtake.
What you must do
Keep left of the line and complete any overtaking before it begins. You may cross it only to enter or leave property on the other side, or to get past a stationary obstruction in the road, and only when it is safe.
