Free K53 Learner's Licence Practice Test

You can practise here free: a five-question readiness test that needs no account, thirty practice questions across the three test sections with a written explanation for every answer, and one full mock exam once you register. Everything is scored the way the real test is — by section, not on aggregate.

Why scoring by section matters

The learner's test has three sections and each one is passed or failed on its own. A total of 55 out of 64 sounds comfortable and is still a fail if the marks you dropped were all in one place.

Most practice sites give you a percentage. That number cannot tell you whether you are going to pass, because it averages away the only thing that decides it. Everything here is scored per section, so what you get back is the sentence that actually helps: this is the area that would fail you today.

Practise a single section

Working through one section at a time is more useful than mixed practice while you are still learning, because it tells you where you stand in the three places that are scored separately.

Road signs and markings is the largest section and the one where the traps are visual — signs that differ by a colour or by one symbol. Rules of the road is where most people are over-confident. Vehicle controls is the shortest section and therefore the least forgiving, and it is the one tied to the licence class you applied for.

Start with the readiness test

Five questions, about two minutes, no account. It scores you by section the way the real test does and tells you which of the three areas to work on first — which is a more useful place to start than a random quiz.

Take the free readiness test

The mistake almost every practice site encourages

Grinding questions until the percentage looks good. Repetition teaches you the questions you have already seen, not the section you are weak in — and because the options are shuffled on every sitting here, memorising a position gets you nothing.

Practise the section you are worst at, read the explanation on every question you get wrong, and stop when the weakest of your three sections is comfortably clear. That is what the real test measures.

Common questions

Are these the real exam questions?

No, and be wary of any site that says its questions are. These are K53-style practice questions written from the National Road Traffic Act, its regulations and the official road sign chart, and each one carries a citation to the provision it rests on.

How many free questions are there?

Thirty in the practice sample — ten per section — plus five in the readiness test, plus a twenty-question mock once you have an account. The sample is a fixed set rather than a rotating one.

Do I need an account?

Not for the readiness test or the practice sample. The free mock exam needs one, because it saves a result.

Is there an explanation for each answer?

Yes, on every practice question — what the right answer is and why the tempting wrong one is wrong.

Does the practice cover road markings?

Yes. Markings are examined as part of the road signs section in the real test, so they are part of the signs practice here rather than separated out.

A motorcycle learner's licence is Code 1. The ages, the supervision rule that works differently for bikes, the nine controls the test asks about, and free practice questions.
